The Sue Smith Team, Re/Max Premier

As a divorcing mother in transition and prospective real estate investor, I needed a realtor I could trust. I also hoped I would find myself a smart, articulate agent who could educate me and answer my endless questions. Several months ago, a flyer arrived in the mail from Charlie Rossi of the Sue Smith Team in Loudoun, VA--and, on impulse, I gave him a call. He seemed to know a lot about the neighborhood in which I was renting, and he immediately arranged to drop off a packet full of information about some other properties I asked about.

Whatever I needed--whether information, instant answers on the phone, or emailed responses--Charlie was helpful, knowledgeable, and lightning-fast. Oh, and as for the "articulate" part, Charlie is a polished communicator--both in writing and in person. (Call me picky, but I want the person informing and representing me in major transactions to have full command of the English language.)

The Bidding War

Bingo! My daily home listing report showed a home fitting all my criteria...in foreclosure, no less. A call to Charlie (who, as it turned out, was hundreds of miles away attending to a family emergency) resulted in an immediate showing of the house with his partner Sue Smith. Since I had no experience with foreclosures, I was willing to be flexible about the timing.

No, that would not do, Sue said. She wanted to get me over there ASAP--the price was right, and there would be bids coming in immediately. Time was of the essence, she advised--and she was absolutely right. The place WAS perfect, and I got an offer in that night. I also, as Sue had predicted, ended up competing with multiple simultaneous offers. And Charlie, by the way, processed all of the documents from his makeshift office hundreds of miles away--and got the last offer document faxed in close to midnight.

How did the story end up? Well, unfortunately, my offer was not the winning bid--but Charlie and Sue were the picture of teamwork in that whirlwind effort. And I knew at that point that I had top-notch professionals representing me.

Finding the Right Place

So back to the drawing board we went.

"What about this one, Charlie?" I emailed one day from Massachusetts after checking the new listings for the day.

"I'll get right on over and check it out," was the reply.

Followed by dozens of photos in my inbox later that day. Not only had Charlie gone by the house: he had done a full photo shoot for me. Wow. Hated to tell him the sludge pond in the back wasn't quite working for me. But gee, it sure was nice of him to take all those pics.

Third time's the charm, it would seem. The next time I got the alert, everything was just as easy as could be. Updated townhome, good location, move-in condition, competitive price, no algae-covered mosquito breeding ground out back. The offer went in, and Charlie helped me negotiate a very good deal.

The great service continued right up until the settlement today. Three-hour home inspection: Charlie was there, relaxed and still answering my questions. Three-hour design consultation (that was only supposed to last an hour or so): Charlie was there, showing no indication that his schedule had been the slightest bit disrupted.

Today, we closed on the place. The first home I've ever owned in my own name--at the end of a year filled with challenge and change. The settlement went beautifully, and my kids and I celebrated with sandwiches and chips in the empty house. As I stared out the plantation shutters at the glorious profusion of cherry blossoms outside my kitchen, I thought how very fortunate I am to have found this home. And how lucky to have found such smart, patient, honest, hardworking agents.

Next Step?

By way of postscript, I should add that I have already begun consulting with Charlie and Sue about possible investment properties. As I've come to expect now, they provide savvy, up-to-date information--and they offer a sophisticated understanding of the value of a property. The pros, the cons, the possible hidden expenses, the questions worth asking. There is never any pressure, never any sense of hurry. What a great resource I have found. I now view the Sue Smith Team as valued partners in my real estate investing education.

Being skeptical about the uncertainty of today's market, we were a little apprehensive about putting our house on the market. My son John just called me to tell me that everything went smoothly at their settlement today. He and Sara are delighted at the service that you and the people that you referred them to gave them.
